Our Mission
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen – Matthew 28 v 19:20

What we do & Where

What our work looks like

The basis of our mission
As an organisation based on Christian values, our aim is to simply fulfil the words of Christ by “Doing unto others as we’d have done to ourselves”. So, what does that look like…?
We carry out UK & Overseas community wide care, both independently and alongside local organisations, churches, social work & other authority departments.
In 1992 we began to extended our “Care & Compassion” program to several overseas locations. We have pioneered and continue to assist “Help the Poor” programmes in Africa, Laos, Cambodia, China, Caribbean, India, Indonesia & Philippines.
More recently, we are further developing our physical & spiritual Care assistance to those that need it right here in Scotland. The nature of our “Care” is to stop people slipping through the gap because perhaps other agencies are at the limits as to what help they can offer.
This is very much the case among asylum seekers. They arrive, traumatised, often with little more than the clothes they are wearing. No money, no place to stay and no idea what to do next. In a word – desperate. Then finding that the government agencies assigned to their welfare are overwhelmed with the level of need from the many that have arrived before them. We greatly respect what these local council departments are able to achieve. We deal with the overflow and it is significantly challenging.
We receive appeals for help daily, which we try our best to respond too through our willing and capable volunteers:
Requests to us for help include the following catogories
- Prison visitation (A category main stream & C category sex offenders)
- Victims of sexual, domestic & psychological abuse
- Victims of satanic ritual abuse
- Victims of violence & other crimes
- Women seeking council & comfort both pre & post abortion.
- Those contemplating suicide
- The frightened, the lonely and the disfranchised or disadvantaged
- Those that have just experienced a suicide or overdose in the family
- Those within witness protection schemes, or in fear of their lives
- People about to be sentenced,
- Or those coming out of prison or rehab and having nowhere to go
- Depressed & unemployed. Many lost jobs & dignity in the lockdowns
- Mental health issues are a fast-growing monster
And as mentioned, many asylum seekers from the Iranian community in Glasgow that have had to flee for their lives leaving their family behind in the hope of reunification sometime soon.
The basis of our mission: Is simply about utilising our willing & capable volunteers for reaching out to the marginalised & disadvantaged and seeking to encourage and equip them emotionally, physically & spiritually to hopefully a better future.
We use community-based projects as a draw for getting people out and involved in simple life enhancing, mentally stimulating schemes. Which often yields a wonderful sense of well-being and unity among the participants. People can find inclusion in
- helping at the food bank
- Joining the graffiti clean team or
- The garden tidy up crew
- The litter lifters.
- The pallet collectors & dismantlers
- We have workshop facilities & provide a kitchen fitting course
As Christians we are of course willing to discuss matters of faith with them if they so wish. It is not a condition for us to just get involved, by trying to arrange, shelter, food, security and comfort & friendship. A seriously traumatised person or family urgently need, calm, objective, sensitive & compassionate reason. The aim is that our actions speak louder than words. We help all faiths & persuasions and have friends of all faiths & persuasions.
Our present needs are: To purchase or rent a centre/church building large enough to provide:
- A gathering point/Centre with space for drop in centre/café
- Mother & toddler’s room with play area
- Counselling rooms & office
- Workshop with power tools to train basic skills for employment
- Storage for food & clothes bank
- Expenses for volunteers to meet the needs of those they are assisting
- Expenses for spare’s, repairs, work clothes & paint for maintenance crews
- Transport for work parties
We have a broad range of volunteers from every imageable background. Many of our current volunteers are Asylum seeker & Refugees who are unable to carry out formal employment work whilst their paper work is being processed. However, they would rather be active in something positive than sitting around a hostel for the best part of the day getting depressed as they miss their former lives back home. They are very willing to work and help improve the community for the greater good. We only require the resources to continue.
OUR CAUSES

Mt Pleasant Before
This was how Mt Pleasant looked a few weeks ago. So many lives have been challenged and changed under that patio since we took it over 10 years ago

Victors not Victims
Police helicopter with chief of police lands in our grounds. They came looking for survivors. No one hurt, Thank God. Met with some of the residence.

Church Totally Gone
This was a relatively new building. We had a service here just a few weeks ago. What power can rip bricks & cement apart? Remember the wind outside Elijah’s cave ripped up the rocks?

2nd Church Destroyed
The Methodist Church had never fully recovered from Hurricane Ike in 2008. The roof had been newly restored then. Nine years later to the day Hurricane Irma totally removed the roof, windows & doors.
